4-8 March 2009, University of Worcester, United Kingdom

The Masaryk University team was invited by David Mycock and Keryn Seal of the University of Worchester to participate in a four day workshop with a team of visually impaired futsal players from Worcester. The encounter took place at the university's venue. The program consisted of four practices on outdooor pitches and a tournament of three teams in a sports hall, the third team being from West Bromwich. The biggest achievement for the Czech team was the opportunity to gain experience and information which can help the team to practice more effectively.

David Mycock's Seminar in Brno

29-30 May 2009, Brno

The two-day seminar on futsal was made for Czechs with visual impairment and it was led by David Mycock, a teacher at the University of Worcester and the British national blind football team coach. David prepared the program of two practice meetings on Friday afternoon, 29 May, and Saturday morning, 30 May. The event was attended by members of the Masaryk University team and Zdenek Barlok.

The first part took place on an outdoor pitch in Sladkeho 13, Komarov, and it focused on improving mutual communication among players and their technical skills with the ball.

On the second day, the participants moved inside a building at Vinarska 5, where they first listened to a short lecture by David Mycock who explained the importance of blind players' awareness of the proper execution of various futsal techniques and behaviour in various game situations. He emphasised the necessity of mental practice and repetition of various activities so that players could learn the exact way and purpose of their application. Then he used numerous simple games to loosen up the seminar participants and make them spontaneously communicate. All could use the acquired skills in a gym and the whole program was closed by a tournament of teams of three players.

Summer Camp in Polnička

23-29 August 2009, Polnicka, district Žďár nad Sázavou

The Masaryk University team coaches organized a week-long event focused on the practice of motor, technical and communication skills necessary for playing futsal for their visually impaired players. Among the participants of the workshop, there were also David Mycosk and Keryn Seal from the University of Worcester and Zdeněk Barlok, the founder of the Prague blind football team.

The main program of the event consisted of nine training sessions which took place on the pitch of grass of the local Elementary school. The sessions focused on:

  • a blind football player's individual skills such as body and movement coordination, spatial orientation, fitness, endurance, work with the ball, dribbling, shooting and passing;
  • voice navigating practice aimed at minimizing a crash of two players and on-pitch orientation of a player;
  • tactical preparation, free and corner kicks practice.

A day off was a part of the program, too. It was devoted to a trip to St. John of Nepomuk pilgrimage church in Zelená hora and an afternoon rest at the Velké Dářko lake. The housing was in Polnička cabin and board was in Polnička elementary school canteen.

Zdeněk Barlok's Seminar in Prague

30 September 2009, Prague

Place: a pitch on the grounds of Nové Butovice high school and academy of commerce, Radlická 115, Prague

Zdeněk Barlok organized a seminar about futsal for participants from Prague on 30 September 2009. The program was very busy. First, the rules of the sport were discussed, and then there was a warm-up exercise after which the participants could practice specific skills of a blind football player in practice when they dribbled the ball, passed, shot and performed one on one duels. At the end of the seminar, there was a short match. As a result of this successful event, the Prague team launched a regular training practice.

Seminar on Football for the Blind in Brno

12 December 2009, Brno

Big gym at Vinařská 5

Masaryk University offered another seminar about blind football to visually impaired participants. The Brno hosting team and the newly established Prague team with Zdeněk Barlok as the leader attended the seminar. The seminar program was divided into four topical blocks which lasted an hour each:

  • The first block was led by Lukáš Másilko, the Masaryk University team coach, who focused on the basick blind football player skolls such as the ball dribble, passing, receptions and shooting. It also contained a warm-up exercise with stretching exercises led by the charismatic Brno team player Jan Hegr.
  • The second block consisted of one on one, two on two, and three on three duels. For a change, the practice leader was Zdeněk Barlok who prepared a variety of exercises focusing on harmonizing ball dribble and communication with the surrounding, team-mates and opponents.
  • The third block followed after a longer break. It consisted of relaxing communication games which aim at encouraging players to communicate more often and cooperate in the team. Lukáš Másilko prepared a contest for three teams, and games called golf and shuffle, i.e. a test of players' ability to get oriented in a given space and quickly react to changes.
  • The last block was dedicated to the match and the following shoot-out. Matěj Plch was the only scoring player of the game when he managed to trick otherwise impermeable Jan Hegr and score into Martin Jelínek's goal. The penalty shoot-out was neverending. It was only decided by Jiří Fenz in the thirteenth series who left no chance to the goalkeeper Milad Duda. Both teams were satisfied, Matěj Plch's team won 1-0 in the play time, while Hegr's team celebrated after the penalty shoot-out.

Both teams agreed on a future match in Prague in late January or early February. Hopefully, sportsmen interested in futsal from other towns will be convinced too, and futsal will expand more in the Czech Republic.
